Regardless of the position, all Academic Treks leaders must:
Attend Broadreach Staff Training
Lead, role model and care for a small group of teens (group
size 10-14) for 24 hours a day, 7 days week
Be culturally sensitive
Serve as positive role models to students
Help out in all aspects of the program itinerary
Keep accurate records of expenses and complete student,
staff, parent and course reports
Coordinate logistics on the trip
Coordinate with local guides and outfitters
Maintain regular communication with Broadreach office and/or
base camp
Send email updates to Broadreach headquarters at designated
intervals during each trip
Organize meals
Participate in pre-trip prep, set-up and final breakdown
Maintain and care for all Broadreach gear
Debrief the program at the end of the summer at Broadreach
Headquarters (usually 4 days) or with Course Director on
program (usually 2 days)
Typically all leaders are required to:
Be at least 21 years of age for
a "Lead" or "Co-lead" position
Be available for training, pre trip preparation, program dates and debriefing (approximately 35-85 days)
Be a certified Wilderness First Responder

Have
previous experience working with teens
Have experience leading
groups in the field
Have experience in the outdoors and the
hard skills required for the trip
